Density Calculator

Our Density Calculator helps to determine a shipment's volume and density and suggests a class. Density is based on the number of pieces, dimensions and weight. Lower density shipments usually have a higher freight class.

This function is provided as a guide for determining your class. The actual class is based on a combination of Stowability, Value - Liability and handling characteristics of the actual shipment and product. To determine the actual class consult the National Motor Freight Classification as rates are based on actual NMFC item numbers.

Any shipping unit that will not allow other freight to be loaded on or around it due to its irregular shape e.g. "Pyramid pallets" will be considered as being 96 inches in height for purposes of calculating density per cubic foot.

If you have questions about how to use this option or otherwise determine the density of your freight, please contact us.

Measure the height, width and depth of the shipment. Measure to the farthest points, including skids or other packaging.
